Dental Bridges in St. Catharines Ontario

A dental bridge is a prosthetic device that replaces one or more missing teeth. This lends your bite more stability by using teeth around the bridge. It is semi-permanent, meaning that it can only be removed by your dentist.

A bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth since these gaps can cause the remaining teeth to shift and weaken your bite. Missing teeth can also increase the risks of gum disease and TMD.

Dental bridges have a number of benefits including enhancing your smile’s appearance, preventing tooth shifting, and strengthening your bite. They also help to maintain your face’s bone structure and allow you to speak and chew more effectively.

There are three main types of bridges which include the traditional bridge, cantilever bridge, and maryland bridge. Out of these three, the most common type is the traditional bridge which is created of porcelain or ceramic and uses adjacent remaining teeth to stay in place.

It usually requires a couple of appointments to place a bridge. During the first visit, a small amount enamel is taken off from the abutment teeth that will be supporting the bridge. Impressions of your teeth are then made, which will be used to create your permanent dental bridge. While you are waiting for your bridge, a temporary bridge will be placed over your teeth. Once your permanent bridge is ready for placement, you will return to our office to have the temporary bridge take off and the permanent one implanted.

To help your bridge last a long time you should be clean your bridge daily just as if they were natural teeth. This means that you should be brushing and flossing your teeth to prevent decay and gum disease.
